After a couple of years of running clear taillights on my 91 'X' a colorado state patrol decided to write me a ticket for $17 after numerous accounts of driving by the police officers and having them behind. I was parked when he wrote me the ticket. So if anyone is thinking about getting these lights for the older models look into how strict your guidelines are on these.

That sucks. Atleast its only 17 bucks. Let me guess you had something other then red lights? When I was pulled over in my old car they followed me for 10 miles before they pulled me over and gave me a $120 fine for my damn tailights. I took it to court and got it dropped.

I am running LED bulbs in there but he didn't have the sense to pay attention. he saw ALL CLEAR and got giddy over a $17 ticket.

thats BS man, im sorry to hear that.

clears are illegal, as in most states they do not meet strict US DOT guidelines regarding taillihgt bulbs... eventhough your state may allow them, state law is superceeded by federal law

yah...so i changed back to my stock ones for now.

f it, man if it was only 17 bucks i would keep em on, its not like they are gonna pull you over every week. ya know? jmo well sorry anyways

he told me if he seen em on my truck again he'd have my truck towed.

careful...a coworker of mine got pulled over again for modified exhuast on his civic si by the same cop who nailed him for unlawful assembly.... he told the cop he was the same cop that nailed him last month and the cop let him go.....

Well I guess when I go to CO next month the clear lenses are getting taken off. I've been pulled over several times here in ID and never got a ticket for them. They did leave me alone after I went to LEDs a long time ago though.

Are you SURE you were just parked?????
My guess is you were cruising College and pissed him off.
:p

I am going to get flamed but oh well...

I don't like the clears, I was following a Honda the other day and she had clears and I almost ran her over, because I couldn't see her brake lights. Try driving into the sun around 5-6 in the evening following someone with clears and you will see why some of us don't like them. And besides I think they are ugly unless you have several mods to make them look right, I always laugh when I see a completely stock car/truck with clears on there.

I am not a fan of those clear lights myself. There was a day that i was driving home from a friends house at night and for a second i took my eyes off the road to get a cd ... when i looked back out of my window i see two clear lights infront of me. looked like f**king headlights. I swearve into the other lane to avoid hitting the basterd and it was just a piece of **** civic with a big ass wing that was taller than the car a ****ty exhaust that made it sound like a swarm of bee's and i wasnt looking at its headlights .... he ended up pulling out of a side street and was going in the same direction i was.

I also have a friend that had those on there with the right LED bulbs and he still got a ticket. To me its not worth taking the chance unless you got alot of money flying around. OH and by the way if there is someone here with alot of money flying around i will give you my pay pal info ... i want new exhuast for my 5.0. ;)

Some cops just don't get it. It's all business when it comes to tail lights, but meanwhile 2 murders, 3 rapes, and 5 robberies happened while he was harassing you.

I have lots of respect for most cops. I teach my kids to trust and respect them, too. But some cops just don't have a clue.

That is not a logical way of thinking .... A police officer can only fix a problem that he sees. If those clear tail lights are against the law then he is infocing it by giving you a ticket. Im sure if he pulled into an alleyway and saw some chick getting raped he would let you go and help the girl out.

Honestly where do you draw the line ... lets say your a cop and you see a guy speeding 15mph over the limit. Should he keep in his head that there must be a rape and murder going on at this second and let you go and hope that he comes across a rape or murder? If that was the case then everyone would be breaking the law and just not commit murders or rapes.

Police officers just like us have to produce in order to move up in rank. The more you produce the better off you are. They have to meet a certain amount of tickets by the end of the month. So if your the unlucky person that is infront of a cop that hasnt met that amount your screwed. They are just doing their jobs.

Oh and trust me i have payed my dues ... i have had 3 speeding tickets one of them was 85 in a 25 on my motorcycle and i was caught a few times on my motorcycle with no motorcycle liecence. But i just sat back and took the ticket with my mouth shut and didnt complain because i knew i was the one that did the wrong. All you guys know from these boards that they are against the law. Just sit back and enjoy the ticket because you should have expected one sooner.

Here in Houston, HPD has a division soley for traffic laws. Then the Harris County Constables also have a division that is called Traffic Enforcement Division. These guys arent supposed to be going after the murderers or the rapists, they are supposed to be going after drivers.

here in good ol' indiana our cops are somewhat cool
i've had my clears on my truck for abou a year and have had no problems with them.. *knock on wood*

to those of you that said you can't see the brake lights in the day time.
what i did to help this. i took some marker lights from wal-mart and mounted them under the bumper, they function as brake and turn signal lights....it kind looks like a montero sport....

I guess my whole point is that cop could just as easily given a warning. Threatening to tow a vehicle for having the wrong tailights seems a bit extreme.

But I guess in life there are "by the book" people, and those of us who realize that life is too short for that kind of nonsense.

I have seen a few people on here paint their clear tail lights with red transparent paint, I think that looks pretty cool, and I dont think most cops will realize that they are not DOT legal.

Cops need to play by the book. They cannot pick and choose which rules to enforce or not. Yes, some laws are stupid. Cops cannot be everywhere at all times, or anticipate crimes. Join the NRA and buy a firearm. Make your house, you family, and your life one less thing our esteemed police have to worry about. Yes, this is a shameless plug and public service anouncement.
