...with manual hubs you have control over when they work...auto hubs have control over, if they'll work...

Because they don't last one day they could be working fine then next day ya go to use the 4wheel and the hubs either don't want to engage correctly or don't want to disengage correctly. And are prone to go out most members here that has or had a first gen including me, have had to switch to manuals (you don't have to but they're cheaper than auto's and should last you alot longer).
