It's not under the hood, I need fuel sending unit help

I've got a 92 xlt, and my fuel guage sending unit has died. I just got back from the Ford dealer. They want $170.00 for it. Does anyone know if a universal one from Pep Boys would work. (or any other auto parts store lol) I've read the directions on hoe to pull the unit from the tank, it doesn't sound too hard, any advise on that one. Thanx a million.

Have you run the tests to make sure it is your sending unit and not just the float? The float is the only part that is sold seperately by Ford. The sending unit/Fuel pump/Float is the $170 unit. I think this is a Ford only part.

If you do a search on the board you should be able to find the procedure to verify the sending unit is bad (using a VOM).

It might save you some bucks...

I found that thread. I did that test. It told me the sending unit was dead. I really miss it. lol
