I've got a question for the guys with pwrtrx noslips...

I just put one into my ranger with the explorer disc braked 8.8.
installation went smoothly, but I've got wheel hop on the inside
wheel whenever I turn somewhat tightly, such as a right
turn from a stop sign, or a left turn in traffic. I'm accelerating
normally, not anything faster than the rest of the traffic, and
I'm gettingwheel hop. Is this normal? Chirping is normal,
but wheel hop I don't think is..... part of what makes this
more noticable is the manual trans and 4.10 gears with
the 325x60r15 bfg all terrains combination, but just curious if
you guys noticed this. The magazine articles say it's almost
undetectable, but this is real noticable!

I have some chirping and banging with mine, but have not experienced any wheel hop. Mine seems to have loosened up (less banging and chirping) some as the miles have racked up on it. But in the begining mine was very tight.
 






Bob, I dont get any hop at the rear wheels, Ive got 10k miles on mine now and works great- still quiet.

One thought though would be that it may be due to the characteristics of an unloaded pickup , and lack of weight over the axle. I know my F/S pick-ups when they are unloaded will hop just about anywhere corners, straight bumps etc. with their limiyted slips.
 






You should check to make sure it is still running right. Jack up both rear wheels and put the truck in gear. Hold the drivers side wheel forward against the engine and push the Passenger one forward. It should not move. Then pull it backwards it should click free and roll backwards w/ minimal resistance. Repeat w/ other side. If it doesn't you'll need to take it apart and reinstall it correctly.
 






I'm no techno wizard but how about changing your driving habits?

No dissing intended but after changing my driving habits, especially in turns and corners, I don't notice anymore chirping. You have to almost feather the accelerator, it's hard to do on a manual, especially when you want to accelerate hard but that may be the only way to prevent it.

It could also be that the bed is so light that instead of chirping, it hops because of the traction and weight factors.
 






Wheel hop as a result of traction is not a diffy problem it is a suspension problem. Your shock dampening and spring rate are not sufficient to plant the tire while being unloaded (such as an inside tire that carries little weight while cornering). That is why old muscle cars always required traction bars once they were souped up and drag raced. My old '67 Mustang fastback could bounce the rear tires like basketballs when I got it on until I installed a traction bar. If you keep your current driving habits you will need to stiffen your shock dampening and/or spring rate to compensate.

However, I believe kvo made a valid point. It took me just one day to get used to mine. If you maintain power up to and through a corner the NoSlip will remain locked and you will chirp tires. If you coast a little momentum up to a turn, then begin your turn so that the outside tire is moving at a different speed than the inside, and then use just a little gas, the unit will not lock up since the tires are differentiating and the NoSlip will allow them to continue turning at different rates. If you stomp on it it will lock up again but it takes some power to do that. Once already turning and the tires are already spinning at different speeds, as long as you don't hit the gas too hard the unit will remain unlocked.

Changing your driving style in corners is easier and cheaper than fixing wheel hop.

Having a LOOOONNNGGG extended cab pick-up I have to differ from y'all a bit. On my truck I have to REALLY punch it to get hop or chirp. It's a little disapointing. It is so much more transparent than when it was on my X Sport. Going around highway corners at speed in the X if I punched it I could feel the truck shift. In my Xtra cab truck I feel nothing.

I wonder if he has a extendedcab or a standard?

Thanks, everyone for replying. To answer some of your
questions, I've got a regular cab short bed, so it is pretty
light. I'll jack up the back and check everything this weekend
but I bet it'll test ok. I tried the letting off the gas once the
wheels were turning, and it made a big difference. It didn't
solve all of it, but it made it much better. You're right, I'm
gonna have to modify how I drive quite a bit more than I
thought. It may also be getting a little smoother with mileage
on it, too. I'll post my findings this saturday. Thanks!

ever since I put mine in I noticed huge difference and had to adjust my driving. Every time I'm cornering sharp and pressing accelerator my rear tire slips and ........ makes noise.... some people might think that I'm doing it on purpose.....driving fast on the highway or road in a turn it's very noticable when you take your foot off the accelerator or press it down...... scary untill you learn it....

my tire doesn't hop though.......
