Has anyone heard much about the new Jacobs ignition system for Ford DIS systems?

It was introduced around FEB of this year and is supposed to work in concert with existing system. Sales pitch says it is the essential upgrade to get the most out of all the mechanical upgrades (intake & exhaust mods). They also claim boosts in horsepower and mileage.

I don't remember all the details; but it was quite expensive ($300 range). I was tentatively interested, but never heard anything about the upgrade since Jacobs sent me the nice little postcard...

The claims sound great, but I'm a skeptic until I see some data. Has anybody seen some data?

Skip it.....I haven't heard about this new ignition, but I know that the old one doesn't do much over stock. Ford came out with a good ignition for the Explorer right off the back. You will see an improvement over the stock, but only a few extra hp. Is it worth 300 for about 5hp....not in my mind. Like I said, I haven't heard about this new ignition, but I'd stick to stock.

Yeah our stock ignition system was/is one of the best made. It was nice seeing Jacobs try to improve something that was really good to begin with, unfortunately, there success wasn't as good as some expected. I think that their HP claims are a bit overexagerated, although some people do note fairly decent MPG gains - I guess you have to outway the cost benefit for the initial outlay compared to the money you would save..... don't think its worth it though.

DIS sent Back!

I just returned a Jacobs DIS Ultra Team for credit. It didn't cost any $300 either, it was $374 with the wires and another $11.34 for the Autolite copper core 103 plugs.
I ran it up the road and I ran it back, 5 tankfuls of gas altogether. Mileage w/o DIS? 18.74. Mileage with DIS? 16.68 mpg. I believe the wires are a good investment but they sent me the wrong ones and they had to go back also. I fell for that line about being a must with exhaust and intake upgrades. The customer service manager, Chris, at Jacobs admitted to me over the phone that 1)Ford has a great ignition system and 2)People sometimes do see a reduction in gas mileage with their products. As far as the extra horsepower? Phoooey. Rick of Amazon Racing says that Jacobs used to be a crack outfit then someone else took over and engineering and product quality took a dive. The Ford wires are good for about 8 months, then the carbon starts to separate within the wire from the constant vibration and heat so the Jacobs or the MagnaCore wires and new plugs are definitely a good thing to have, if you can get the right lengths. Put your money elsewhere. Hope this helps.

I installed the MSD DIS4 (MSD is the leader in ignition technology and MSD has sold the Capacitive Discharge Multi-Spark tech. to all the others). After spending $300.+ ($100 in coupons), I gained approx..7 MPG and no noticable performance gain. Put the money into an exhaust system.
