Hey guys, question... Has anyone installed a JET Low Temp Thermostat in their explorer?? Ive got the SOHC V6 so anyone who has done this.. Do you like it?? Worth it?? I have done exhaust, Jet ECU upgrade and K&N intake, i felt it was a worthy install. Do you agree??

Stick with a 190/195 F stat; the motor was designed to use it.

outrun84,
If you change, go with a 180-189 thermostat from FORD (RT-1156). If you go lower then that, your engine won't run properly.

hmm

Well the JET one is 180 degrees. Is there something that i should know about as to why you guys dont like any other one than fords??

Personally, I would rather have RobertShaw, but they don't make 180, so what ever you can find would have to do. I have a friend at the dealership that would sell me a FORD one for $15.96.

I would personally stick with a 190+ stat. Fords like to run a little hot.

The reason they say to go with the higher "stock" temperature thermostats is because that is what the stock engine management system is looking for. If the ECT output never indicates the 192 that the computer is waiting for, then the computer always runs in "warm-up" mode, which is less fuel efficient. You mention that you put the JET chip in, so it may handle the lower temperatures differently than the stock PCM algorithm.
