Hello all. I'm joining the forum in hopes of gaining answers. I bought a 2012 ford explorer, limited, tuxedo black. It has the tow package as well as 4wd. I love my truck!

However, yesterday I was rear ended by a young adult who was texting. I was at a complete stop and he hit us at 40mph! My truck took it like a champ! However, the entire spare wheel carrier is now in the interior of my car....yeah, he smashed it that hard. I'm wondering if this will cause the truck to be totaled?

Help!

Only the adjuster can tell you that for sure, but having the same thing happen to me before twice, I can tell you that they will declare it a total if the work to fix it amounts to over 5000and of that equals to more than half the value of the vehicle or more. Being that you have a 40k vehicle, they will probably be more inclined to pay for the body work. However, if they declare the vehicle structurally compromised, they will declare it a total no matter what. Good luck, I hope it works out ok for you.

Thanks! I just wish the adjuster was as proactive as I am. I called the accident in while I laid on a back board and in a neckbrace from the ER yesterday and he still hasn't made an appointment to look at the vehicle. Welcome to red tape!

Believe me, I know all about it! Our Honda was totaled earlier this winter. It took over 3 weeks for the adjuster to declare it, and she kept ducking our calls whenever we tried to talk to her. Then when she said she finally had our check, she left for vacation without giving us the check. And then when we found out where she had been, she told us she wanted to come by and give us our check but she got sick on her vacation and asked if we could drive to her house to pick it up!

Welcome to this forum! What kind of vehicle was that person driving? The main thing is that you are alright. I've been rear ended a bunch of times by distracted drivers. Which state do you live in?
