My wife and I have been looking into a 2nd truck. Well I have found a few and my bros truck seems to be the best of them. He only wants 2k for it and it is a 91' 4L 5speed long bed. The thing is it is 2wd.

Now for the crazy thought. Would it be easier to make it a strait axle 4x4 or get a D35 system from the yard or someone on the board. I would put the BW13-54 T-case in it (think that is the manual one).

I am just trying to get ideas. I really dont want a pre-runner type truck, but I also dont want to spend 2.5K on a 85Bronco in much worse shape than the Ranga.

Any coments will help and are appreciated. Oh yea I know were I can get the hp D44 from a older bronco and it is complete still on the bronco. Just incase it would be easer to make it strait axle.

The TTB from another Explorer will almost bolt right up assuming you get all the needed parts. Kris Guilbeaux has done this himself twice (2wd > 4wd). So if you can find great deals on the donor parts then that is gonna be easier and cheaper.

A SAS will require custom fabrication and some research and know-how. However, it can be done for not much money if you're really lucky finding the parts. A SAS is also gonna perform better in most offroad situations. But of course, there's that fabrication involved.
