i was just wondering what the difference between a F150 and F250 was. i see a lot more F150's on the road. my dad had a F250, but got rid of it last year to get a dodge ram.

depends on whether your referring to the f250 light duty, or the f250 heavy duty. Difference between f-150 and f-250 light duty. not much. Some different suspension components and a tougher frame. Other then that its the same engine, same tranny, same body, etc.
The difference between the f-250 heavy duty and the f-150 is bigger though. You have more options on engines, many more heavy duty parts, and a much sturdier frame.
The difference between the f-250 and the f-150 with the 7700 package is basically nothing :).

Doesn't the Super-Duty also have a solid front axle?

yep they have a solid front axle

thanks guys. i just didnt know the difference, and wondered why there were so many 150s. if i ever buy one, i'll probably get a F150 too.

Leenjen, if you really want a truck, I would suggest getting a 250. A 150 is not a whole lot bigger than your X. I just think if you own an Explorer then i would be better to buy a 250 because it is a bigger truck. And you can get a Powerstroke.

I always thought full size trucks were segmented into models mainly by payload weight rating. 150 being a 1/2 ton truck, 250 being a 3/4 ton, and 350 a 1 ton. If you took a standard cab standard bed of each model, they would be the same size, I think. The differnce is as you go up in weight class, parts get bigger and stronger, i.e. axles, springs, etc.

Kebert, how do you mean the f-150 isn't much bigger then the explorer? It's much bigger in my opinion. It's about 6-12" wider (never actually measured it but I can tell just when pulling into parking spots, etc. and my truck is about 3 feet longer then the explorer. Not only that but it sits higher, has a larger wheelbase, and has a more stout appearance (imho) Check it out:
The stock F-150 sits just as high as my Explorer does, and thats with the 5.5" lift and 33"s on it. Also you can fit a 33" on the f-150's with no lift modifications, and 35"s with only a 2" body lift and some inner fender trimming.

By the way, yes you are correct on the solid axle, I had forgotten that (haven't worked on an f-250 since my co-worker sold his)

Oh, sorry. I guess I worded what I was trying to say wrong. What I meant was that a F-250 (the heavy-duty one) has more capabilities then the F-150. For example, the 250 can tow a lot more, it has heavier axles, bigger brakes, and is avalible with more powerful engines.

The comparison I was making towards the Explorer and the F-150 is that they are more similar in the way of tow weights and payload weights.

Sorry if I confused anyone.
