just bought a couple things...tell me your thoughts

hy ya'll. i just ordered a hyperytech module and a complete new itake with k &n filter with 3 inch tube. with these two items, will they make a noticible difference? and will they help with the engine overheating? thanks yall!

An open air element under the hood is actually going to make it overheat more, your going to be sucking hot air in your engine with it.

yes they'll make a difference.

the open filter will give your engine hotter air below 15-20 mph and may actually slow you down if temps outside are above 90, but above 20 mph it will perform much better than stock.

Come on, let's stop the BS about open element intakes. They don't do anything at normal driving RPM's, 1900 to 3000. Even K&N's charts show this for their FIPK's. The diference is at 4000+ rpm's and then the full K&N FIPK kit only makes 4 more HP on the 4.0 OHV engine. I've been this route. First I cut up my air box and used a K&N drop in. Then I had the FIPK kit, sold it on ebay after three weeks. Got a new air box/ old K&N drop in and just ran a 3" hose to the front grill. This works better than the cut box or FIPK because its a closed system and gets more cooler air. The only aftermarket intake that I like is the Volant system, everything is closed in. I don't mean to bust anyones nad's here on the intake issue, but open air intakes just "suck" (hot air.) The best thing you can do for more power (worked for me) is to put on a Magnaflow and get a 2.25" or 2.5" exhaust from the cat back.

...so your saying it pretty much pointless to get a K&N airfilter? that was going to be my first engine mod but i dont know now...

Alec.....i live in houston, where average temperature in the summer is 95 (sept right now theres a hurricane and my entire backyard is under a foot of water) but anyways would it not be good to get one with the average temp that high?

One last point, see the test done by ForTruck World http://www.fordtruckworld.com/tenarticle.asp?sid=2&aid=31 an FIPK or any open air filter isn't worth the money over a K&N drop in and opening up the airbox with a larger hose and routing it to the front bumper to draw in cooler air. My next step is to get a DEI heat shield wrap for my stock intake pipe, and a Weapon R ramair scoop. God I miss my Beretta right now, I retro'ed a ramair setup off of a Grand Am back in my "Uncle Ben's" day's. Invest in a good exhaust first.
