I changed out the DPFE today and the hoses that connect it to the egr tube on the exhaust manifold. I also bought a new IAC valve and installed it. When I started I disconnected the battery and when I finished I hooked it back up. I took it on a test run after and it ran fine, but I keep thinking I hear a slight ticking noise and a faint high pitch whine. Not near as bad as before but still there. Should I disconnect the battery again and let the comp. reset itself after the test run?

No, nothing you hear or think you hear has anything to do with the computer. recheck for a vacuum leak on the DPFE connections or elsewhere. As for the IAC, it can make a noise, but I'll leave answering that to those more familiar than I. I'd not get overly excited about this...

wait you just changed from DPFE to EGR or visa versa? If you went from EGR to DPFE I'd die for some help doing mine.

My two cents would be to check the valve itself to see if its worn out or not holding a seal anymore but i dont understand the situtation completely.

DPFE is a sensor. It's the little part under the IAC. I replaced that and it was a whole lot smoother and actually got an extra 3 mpg on the highway. I'm very grateful!!

Try looking for loose hoses. Are you sure you didn't put the hoses wrong??

Maybe what i replaced is not the DPFE. I replaced the rectangle shaped sensor that is bolted to the back of the intake manifold. the two hoses (which are on tight and in the right place ) go to the EGR tube coming out of th eexhaust manifold. I also changed the IAC valve. All hoses that I can see are attached. THe X runs fine, but I still hear a faint ticking sound around 2000rpm.

Is the DPFE the same part as I mentioned above that connects to the EGR tube? If not where exactly is the DPFE?

You got the DPFE. Very hard to get to, being at the top back of the intake manifold. I plan on changing it, just haven't found the right socket to get back there yet.

The DPFE is in a different location on the V6's, so don't worry you got it.

ITSA 5-0: Don't know what year they started (I think '97), but my X has both the EGR & DPFE.

V8-X ... you're right it is a pain in the ass to get to. I used a 7mm socket with two 1/4" u-joint adaptors and got the bolt nearest the passenger side, I also unplugged the huge wireing harness to have more room. the other bolt was fairly easy to reach.

So far the check engine light has not come back on, I drove it about 70 miles today so hopefully the CEL prob is fixed.

They started making the DPFE system in 96 but nly on the V6's. I have a V8, and its the last of the models with tHe EGR system.

Difference is that the DPFE system is a seperae computer that calculates out-flow gas and inflow gas and changes accordingly.

The EGR system is mainly mechanical and uses the PCM to regulate gas flow. It senses the outbound gas flow but guesses at the income gas flow. There is a few different parts between the DPFE and the EGR system. I thought that you had went from the EGR system to the DPFE system, I am looking to "replace" my EGR gas recirculation with the DPFE -- its more reliable and increases gas mileage as well as performance.

If anybody has converted from the EGR to the DPFE, please post.

THANKS
