just had it serviced but not very cold

'97 Explorer XLT 4.0 SOHC

history:

*ac worked summer 2005 for a short while after having a new motor put in by ford (in north carolina). took it back for an ac check and they stated that the 2 o-rings on the back of the compressor were bad. they replaced and it worked again for a few weeks.

*worked on the ac again the summer of 2006 (this time in georgia). the accumulator was rusted through. common problem so replaced it and and the orifice then a leak check then recharged. only worked for a few weeks again but came the end of summer. while it did work though i checked the temp with my multimeter down into the 40's F

*the new accumulator from '06 started to rust within a few months of having it on so replaced it again last week. took it to a shop (now in missouri) and had yet another leak check and fill done. the ac works but the coldest it dropped to 58F. usually fluctuated from 60-64F the last few days.

i'm calling the shop monday but basically just looking for any reasonable opinions or theories as to why it's not so cold this time.

I'd let the shop "look" first......while you're there record the "static pressure" (Engine off) and record the system pressures (Engine running, RPMs at 1500-High side and Low side pressures), also take note of the ambient air temps at the time of the test.....be sure a hi-velocity cooling fan is put in front of the condenser (while doing the engine running test). Also, record the vent temps.

Shop gets the first try. IF, you're satisfied with their proposed solutions or the results....thats good.

IF, you're skeptical or IF you're thinking about DIY. Bring back those readings and post them and any thoughts what the shop had to say......there are folks here that are real good at figuring out AC problems.

It doesn't hurt and costs nothing to get advice.
