2000 Explorer Sport
Hey whats up, my name is Kellen. I'd just like to start off by saying that I am a Chevy guy converted Ford. I have converted for reasons that most probably wouldn't consider a reason and that is because Chevy sold-out to the govt/ went bankrupt. I wish they would've just fallen off the grid for these two reasons and refuse to ever buy a Chevy ever again. But any who, I just purchased my first suv Which is a 2000 Explorer Sport and so far it exceeds my expectations (again being a former Chevy guy I didn't know what to expect) but so far so good and I'm loving the four-wheel-drive.

I found that I really enjoy working on my motorcycle so I plan on trying to do all the work on my truck, or at least all the work that I'm able to. Not only does it save you some dough but there is also this satisfaction you get which is great. I am going to be changing my lbj's this week so we will see how it goes. I've been doing my research and it seems like it should go pretty smoothly. Now for the newbie question on lubes and greases and oils etc. What kind of grease is recommended for ball joints and what are the "general" lubes, greases, and oils that every working garage should have? Any help would be great. Thanks a lot.

Welcome To The Forum and The Ford Side! Hahaha My g/f has a 99 malibu for a chevy it aint too bad ;). I use a general purpose grease for a grease gun for my ball joints. I see you said you love your 4wd there are several on this site that take their trucks on the trail and give them a beating, all kinds of info on lifting :)

Welcome Kellen!

Agreed on your reasoning- I know of now 27 people (yes, I'm bored and keeping a tally) of people that have vacated GM and Chrysler and have now bought 21 new and 6 used Ford vehicles strictly because of the bailouts, and all of them have been pleasantly surprised at how good the vehicles are. (Not that I didn't spend years trying to convert them) ;)

And I'm piling on the general purpose grease for the garage. Nothing special, but that Ex will run forever! :)

Awesome, thanks a lot for the replies. I'll be tackling the ball joints tmrw so I'll be picking up some gree and grease gun along with some pb blaster and whatever else catches my eye when I go to the Auto Zone to rent the ball joint press so wish me luck.

Another penetration spray you may want to try is JB 80 if your local store has it, its around 8 bucks a can but unlike PB blaster it foams more around the object and less is wasted it doesn't just drip down and seems to do a good job.

alright sweet I'll check it out. Yea I just found out how much pb drips, its a big mess and pretty wasteful but it does the trick.

Yea it does the trick but I myself hates how much it drips sometimes.

That JB80 is pretty good stuff...
