Just wanted to try to get the hang of using a forum to socialize a bit. I've got a 1999 XLT 2WD with the tow package. I was towing a small trailer with about 1000 lbs on it up to about 4000 ft elivation and so proud of the 4.0 SOHC that it didn't even have to downshift, only to find out later that the rear started to make noise. Looks like I burned the spiders up a bit. I've had the rear cover off of it to replace the axle bearings some time ago, but for got to check the spline count on the axles. Is there another way to find out the spline count without pull the cover again?

Welcome to this forum! Which differential do you have? It should have a 31 spline count.

Thanks for the quick reply. I beieve it is a 3.73 limited slip.
