I was wondering if they made a V8 explorer in a 2wd version?

I have one. There are tons around here!

Yeah I would say 30-40 % of 96-01 V8s are 2wd. My 98 mounty is 2wd.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but I'm curious about that: did Ford decide how many V8 or V6 put on the market in those years, or it was an "in progress" decision, based on people request?
Or maybe just that one of the 2 engines fit better on those cars?

My 96 was built end of 95 so first of the V8's.

I wanted a 4wd not avail then because:

1. the autotrans came from a V8 thunderbird and no provisions yet to attach a transfer case to it.
2. no transfer case was avail yet that would tuck under the body and hold up to the HP\torque of a 5.0.

It's all constantly adjusted, they monitor sales and decide how many of what to produce. A lot of it is based on what the dealerships order though.
