Why is a kappa so much better than an xplod aluminum subwoofer, besides the fact that the kappa only has 200 more watts?

w/o going into the tech of each companies products i can say, reputation for one, ive heard all sorts of good things about infinity, and lots of bad things about the sonys. If you mean by "better", a product with more quality, then id say the infinitys have the xplods beat, in warranty, and history. If you mean by cost, the sonys are (should be) cheaper. Finally check out each ones Stats such as: RMS power handling, sensitivity, xmax etc. and see which is better. Basically to me it just comes down to personal opinion!!!! I personally know 3 people who have had 3 sony products fail (class D amps) and that means bad quality control to me. whereas my buddy just picked up a infinity 12, and its very good. Id pick the infinity because of experience.

simple statement here

Sony's car audio, except the decks, pretty much sucks

Amps are junk
Subs aren't that loud

Infinity is a good brand, but dont run too much power to the kappa's b/c they can blow pretty easily w too much power. I would run about 50-100 watts over the RMS.

It's just overall quality. Why does a Mercedes cost more than a Honda. Even if they had the same hp and other stats, the Mercedes is just a better car. Same wihtt he subs. The Kappa Perefcts are good subs.

Remember, more often then not, you get what you pay for.

that perfect blowing thing is such a load of crap. Ive had both a perfect 12 (older model) and 12.1 on a infinity beta digital 300 (500 RMS each) and on my mtx 81000d (~600-750 RMS each) and have never had either fail in anyway, not even a hint of coil burning.

Now to the topic... anything sony is garbage, pure and simple IN MY OPIONION BASE ON PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. They're products are marketed right and appeal to people more then other brands with a better build quality... ive had sony decks that malfunctioned and skipped like no tomarrow. Had a friend that blew several sony 12's and then upgrade to the aluminums blew then then smoked his 760watt MAX sony amp :::rolls eyes..

My perfects are 3 years old and still working like the day i got em... BTW i recommend if you get the perfects to put them in a 1.25 cubic foot box.

Now my DD is in my truck and the perfects sit in my room... The DD is one of the sickest woofer ive ever heard saw and owned

Just to let you know, the infinities do have problems with blowing. A friend of a friend that works at American's repair facility in Madison Wisconsin said that the infinities do have a problem with blowing. The way they are vented leaves much to be desired according to him. They disapate heat well. So BruceWayne may have got some that last well. That doesn't mean all of them work that well. Depends on your listening habits and that type of bass you listen to. Just to let you know that real facts on the subs. They are good subs, but take care of them. Also i would put them in a ported box for more cooling.

It is like the explorer v6 tranny problem. Yes, people have trannys that last, but quite a few dont

Trying to help ya
Geoff

correction on the last thread, they DONT disapate heat well
