hi
bought a cheap 97 XLT explorer(£800), replacing disks, pads, rear bumper, couple of tyres, full service front to back and a really good clean. No cam chain noises! Think Ive got myself a great motor as a 4x4 backup/load carrier to my cars. Had a new north face 'X' plate about 5 cars ago and really enjoyed it.
Im a strong mechanic for older generation vehicles and good logic process as an IT director but not much good with later vehicl;e electronics.(bought an ODB2 reader so far)
Problem is that I only have 1 single button fob and its past its best.
Im told Ford cant supply single button unit anymore and later units are incompatible. I bought a 2 button unit with instructions from Ebay but current system wont go into 'learning mode'
Im sure this is a common problem, how have people dealt with this before? Its only the single button one seems the problem.
Got another imobiliser and single fob coming from a breaker which Im told will be an easy replace.
Anyone removed this completely, changed to non ford remote/alarm?
Can you update to 2 button system using which parts?
Or is the beast just dead without the fob?
Help I guess.
