1999 Mountaineer
My wife and I purchased a '99 Mountaineer about 8 months ago. It didn't come w/ an owners manual (of course) and I can see nowhere in the vehicle where the keypad code is located. How would I go about finding it?

Thanks

The permanent code from the factory is located on a sticker on the RAP module which is located forward in the jack compartment.

Take a look at the pictures in this post: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=192268&highlight=rap

Once you locate the permanent number, to program a personal code in the keypad:

To program a new access code:
1. Enter the permanent code ( from the RAP module sticker ) on the keyless entry keypad on the driver’s door.
2. Press the 1/2 button within 5 seconds of last digit of permanent code. (This alerts system to accept new code.)
3. Enter alternate 5-digit code. Do not exceed 5 seconds between entering digits or between pressing the 1/2 button and entering the first digit.
4. Verify that the new code works.

Thanks a lot, that is quite helpful. Can you see the code from within the jack compartment, or do you have to take the whole side panel off?

Thanks again!

Unless the sticker is gone or discolored, yes you can see it from the hatch ( jack ).

Good luck ...
