When activated, should the keypad light up on a 96'? The interior lights come on but at night the pad is alittle hard to see.

I really think they are supposed to light, however mine (96 XLT) does not either. I just figured the light is burned out, and I am to cheap to buy a new keypad because this one works fine.

my 98 sport lights up

My '97 used to; no idea how/if you can change bulb.

Yep, there is a bulb. Of course, you have to have "juice" AND a ground to "let there be light". Mostly likely the bulb is gone but those other "things" are almost equally likely especially if you have never seen it lit.

If it does bug you, they're fairly easy to replace on the Gen II.

Mine used to light up in the night, now it's dead. I'll try to substitute the bulb one of these days, I'm sure there's a thread in this forum that shows how to do step by step. Some months ago I read one about even changing the color of the keypad... so the bulb shouldn't be a big deal.
