still being a newbie to the sight, i was wondering has any one ever tried taking a keyless entry module that"s located in the back 95-2001 explorers, and lets say you have a 1997 ford explorer but want to use the newer remotes from a 1998-2001 would you be able to remove the KEM from the newer model and put it into the older model ? Also would i be able to use the newer remotes that come from the 98-2001 explorers? thank you to any one that responds.

For Any one that wanted a newer keyless entry and using the newer remotes it worked pulled one from a 2000 explorer and plugged it in works great and the remotes respond alot quicker than the ones used for the 95-97 years so yes its swap-able plug and play.

I cut my keyless set up out had a mind of its own

My keyless was crap i took it out too, command start would only crank my engine over

mine was just really slow so i decided to update it as well as the keypad from a newer explorer and it actually really great.

Where is the box/sensor for it located??
I just cut the harness for it under the driver side carpet
Maybe ill just replace its brain

if im not mistaken its behind the left rear panel in the back of the vehicle right above the rear wheel well. im pretty sure to really get to it you need to remove the whole panel, and not just the door. but ive never had to take mine out either, might be able to reach the connectors through the door.

Ill take a peek on Sunday see what I can find thanks
