My '94 Explorer Limited with remote keyless entry was diagnosed with a voltage leak traced to the remote keyless entry module. This was draining the battery, which led to starting problems. Prior to the diagnosis, we replaced the battery, but it too eventually lost enough energy to cause starting problems. The repair technician said the module was leaking 69 milliamps--about 10X normal. A new replacement module from Ford would cost $380, and they didn't even have them available at the time, so we found a used one on eBay and had it installed. Unfortunately, it too leaked voltage--the same 69 milliamps! The repair technicians have checked all other possible sources connected to the module and are convinced that it is the source of the problem. My question is this: has anyone else out there experienced this problem, and were you able to solve it by replacing the module? I can find other used modules available, but I wonder if some other problem in the vehicle is causing these modules to fail?
