2002 Mountaineer
Hello everyone,

I recently became the owner of a very well kept 2002 Mountaineer. The truck has only a very few issues, one of which being the keyless entry system doesn't seem to be working.

The truck came with the 2 original chipped keys and 1 original fob. I was told when I purchased the vehicle that the battery in the fob was dead. No big deal, one trip to the drugstore later and a new battery was installed. However, even after repeated attempts to program the fob to the vehicle, nothing works and the fob does not lock, unlock, sound the alarm, or pop the back glass. Additionally, the factory keypad code (it was in the owner's manual along with the original window sticker) does not unlock the doors.

I know the keypad works as pressing each button will trigger the interior lights to come on and pressing 7/8 and 9/0 simultaneously will lock the doors.

Here's a summary of what I've tried:

  • Replacing fob battery (battery is installed correctly)
  • Testing individual exterior keypad buttons (all work and 7/8+9/0 locks doors)
  • Disconnecting and reconnecting the negative battery terminal

None of these have worked. Anyone have any ideas?

Yes, the locks do cycle but regardless of which button I press on the remote, it never works.

Same exact thing is happening to me, my fob isn't working so I go to reprogram it, and it enters programming mode but when I hit a button on the fob the vehicle doesn't respond.

Some troubleshooting I tried was
-I checked the fob at a home depot to make sure the fob was functional and it was.
-I tried replacing the RAP module but the programming is still not working.
-I tried disconnecting battery and then reconnecting

Please someone help fix this!!

PS. I drive a 2000 ford explorer

did you find the fix

I am in the same boat, my remote worked and then stopped working once a few weeks ago and I was able to reprogram. I needed to change the instrument panel and it still was working, but now has failed.

I thought 2002 had a separate pats controller. Then, 03+ it was part of the PCM.
