I have a 1986 Ford Taurus Wagon with keyless entry in the driver's door. The control module is inside the rear driver's side fender, and from what I've read here, it's the same for the Explorers. I now have a 1992 Explorer with power locks. What I'm going to do is find a way to put the keyless entry from the Taurus (we're junking it) into the Explorer.
My question is, does anyone know if the wiring harness would already be in the rear fender unused, or am I going to have to do it from scratch?

I have read on other posts that some Explorers have the wiring back there for the explorer keyless entry module, but I know that my 94 xlt does not. I think you'd be able to see an unused plug hanging in there if you do. Whether that would just plug into what you are taking out of your Taurus is another question.

That said, I installed an OEM "dealer option" alarm/remote entry system that I bought off ebay. All of the door lock wires can be easily accessed in the floor on the driver's side if you remove the driver's kick-panel. There is plenty of room to splice at that location too. You may just have to get wiring diagrams for your explorer and for the taurus and figure out how to hook everything up.
