I have a 1997 ford explorer XLT, I would love to have keyless entry but I cant figure out which transmitter I actually need. I've been looking on ebay and it sayd it will work ford 97 explorers etc, but there are other ones as well that look different. I guess my question is will all of them work or is there a certain one I need? HELP PLEASE!

I went to my local Ford Dealership to get a new keyless entry remote paddle because mine wasn't working. They can pull the information up on the computer with just the year and make and model of your Explorer. I paid $64.00 for mine. I wish my keyless entry on the side of my driver's side door worked though.
You can also search it on the computer. Then they helped me set my remote paddle to my vehicle also. It is GREAT!

did your truck have keyless and you just don't have the keyfob? I might have one here extra. I programed 2 of them to my 95 Sport and they were easy to do. I believe they were the same up to a point. Also, do you have the keypad on the side? If you do, and don't know the code, you can do a search here for how to find the master code so you can reset yours.

I have the key chain remote for mine. I bought a new one a few days after I bought my Explorer. I read the thread about being able to reset my keyless entry on my driver's side door. The only problem with that is, my driver side back passenger door doesn't open. Go figure huh? I'm working out the bugs on my vehicle. What can I expect for a used vehicle?
