Isn't always the way it happens; you take your 2002 explorer for unrelated service and find that the key fobs and outside keyless entry no longer work. I've tried reprogramming the key fobs using the 8 one and off routine to no avail. Is there something that controls both those functions I'm missing somehow? Dealer says there is no separate fuse (keyless entry buttons will still LOCK all doors). Thanks for any advice you can provide.

Thanks for moving it. When I signed up for the forum I wasn't sure where I should post the question. Yes, the work was performed by the dealer; the service department basically said it couldn't be something they did. We'll see next week. Thanks again.

Key Fobs

I only had one key when I purchased the vehicle, so to be on the safe side I purchased 2 new blank keys off of Ebay. When checking with the Ford Dealer to get them cut & programmed they quoted me $80. Took the vehicle to a locksmith and got it done for $32. My keypad doesnt work because I do not have the default code to reset it but I have the keyless fobs anyways. I also purchased the fobs off ebay and I programmed them according to the owners manual & they worked fine. Maybe your batterys mysteriously went out at the same time but I cant imagine that.

You do have the default code - it's clearly visible (but can be hard to find and hard to see) on a sticker on the side of the remote entry control box.

I disconnected the battery for 30 minutes and then was able to reprogram one fog; however, when I tried to do the second one immediatey after the first, they both lost programming again. Twice more I disconnected the batter for 30 seconds and had the same results. I finally gave up when I got one to work so we didn't have to use the key all the time. The touch pad will lock the car but will not accept the default code. Back to the dealer today, a bit unhappy and with a lighter wallet.
