i need new shocks. my ride is so damn stiff, i can feel every little crack in the road.....and its not soft. lol. the truck has a 4" body lift on it and some larger then stick tires. i also have 2" wheel spacers all around.

when i look at new shocks and it says "1 to 2 inch lift", is that what it will give, or what is required? also, does that mean i need new springs?

i was also wondering if it did give an extra few inches, if you guys think it would get rid of m fender rub (very bottom corner), or just extend the wheel travel??

Nah. Shocks dont give you any lift, so i would imagine thats the requirement for them. More lift equals less likely to rub. Otherwise you can always break out the sawzall and that would fix your fender rubbing.

Your shocks bolt to your body in the back, so with a 4'' body lift your back shocks are pulled out a good amount. Your best bet is to go to your local parts store and have some one get in a book and look up your stock back shock demtions. Now that you have you numbers look for a shock that has the same mounting set up that is 4'' longer when compresed. Now you have a good part# for a rear shock that should fix your stiff ride.
On the front you shocks are in a bucket on the frame so you can use stock length.

on my fist gen the back shocks bolt to an x shaped body brace with the spare hanging from it.

Like the one in this pic?

thanks for the replies guys. still wondering if i need(or should get) new springs to go with them? i think i'm the third owner, and the last guy that had it was my not-so-smart friend, who basically just gave it to some shop friends and told them what he wanted. so i would imagine if the shocks would require +/- inches to correspond with what's lifted or lowered on the body, the current shocks and springs CANNOT be stock. or rather, if they are, they would be causing stiffness do to the inability to travel right?

i was looking at skyjacker btw if that helps. the springs also provide lift right? so if i want about 2 more inches to allow fender clearance, i need to find +6" shocks?

and i'vs taken a grinder to the fender corner, so it doesn't rub nearly as much as it did when i first got it. if the shocks fix the rub i'll just get some new fenders and slap them on.

also, anybody know where I can get a complete motor? lol. i've been looking all over the net, ebay included. I either need a semi-cheap crate, or a rebuilt one. i'm not too concerned if i need to ship it for a few hundred.
