I was just wondering if the KKM air filter is a good investment. Right now it would be the only peformance upgrade on the car (92 Eddie bauer, flowmaster exhuast coming in a couple months). I wanted to get peoples input on this product before I throw 100 bucks towards it.

It will give you a few ponies, maybe a bit better mileage, and better engine sound. The reusable filter will save you money in the longrun, too.

We have countless members running the KKM or similar kits, very few have had problems or disliked them.

Good luck

I could have bought a KKM filter with all the money I wasted on disposable filters over the years. I think its worth it.

Go for it. With the exhaust, you'll be able to see a difference.

Well, I just installed my brand spankin' new MAC Products air intake tonight after work. So far so good. Of course, I only ran it around time for a few so I don't really know too much about how well it works. Seems to have a bit more pickup off the line than before. I tried a couple of runs off the light on the way home for work so I'd have a recent comparison. We'll see over the next week if there is any gas mileage improvement. I'd like to see a mile or two more per gallon.:redexp:

For the looks alone I think the KKM is worth it. I did notice a better performance (although a bit louder as well).

Ew dude, KKM looks like crap in my opinion. Go ahead and get the whole thing. Ifab.net makes great ones, replaces the tube too. It sounds like a chipmonk screamming around 2-2.5K rpms too. : )

I got the KKM a few weeks ago. Noticed slightly better response, and it added about 1.5 MPG.

The ifab one looks great! But its almost twicw the cost just for a better look and how come they don't make them for my '97?
I have the KKM I am very happy with it.

Personally, I usually value performance over looks. Maybe mine usually being covered with mud has something to do with that. If you are building a show car or something like that it's one thing, but for me I couldn't see paying more just to get the "pretty" pipe with it. Although a heat shield like on the K&N wouldn't be bad.

I got a KKM style filter for $45 off Ebay. Might not look really flashy, but I have been pleased with it thus far. Must say my gas mileage went down a bit, but only b/c I like the way it sounds when I get on it.:D

All those "pretty" pipes do is heat up the air which is going into the manifold...Cold air is ideally what you want going into your engine. Your aluminum piping is just heating that air up and you are actually possibly losing performance, but if that is your prerogative, then go for it.

Actually, regardless of whether or not the material cunducts heat, the volume of air flowing through, and the time spent in contact with the tube... won't heat up the air. There have been tests done to study the air temp entering the intake manifold (read: very hot! on top of engine and all metal!) and there are no changes in intake air temp..... The data they gathered was impressive too, but with hardly any variance.
