I bought a KKM about 3 years and about 40,000 miles ago and it appears to be dry rotted and cracked. Has anyone else had this problem? I thought these things were supposed to be guarenteed for life and last forever??

Anyone know where i can get a replacement filter?

You are supposed to oil it every year or so. If you haven't for 3 years then it might be beyond repair.

It isnt the cotton gauze that is getting dry rotted and cracked. It is the actual rubber part of the filter keeping it all together and which mounts onto the bracket.

Any rubber part on a vehicle can get dry rot. This includes bushings, filters, mounts, gaskets, etc. Every 6 months or so I once-over the entire vehicle for rubber condition and moisturize those parts that are dry.

arent these things supposed to have a lifetime warrenty? I dont remember reading anywhere that i had to condition the rubber but i also no longer have my instructions either.

It may not have said that on the instructions, ...but it kind of goes without saying that rubber requires some periodic maintenance to keep it in good shape.

Every once in a while I wipe a little silicone spray on door linings, rubber hoses, etc. and on my truck they are mostly 9 years old (except radiator hoses which are newer) and none are dry-rotted. I don't recommend using Armor-All or things like that because those products tend to dry things out for some reason after they wear off.

Send an e mail yo KKM and ask about the trplacement part as well as how to care for it directions.

Post what they say.

Good luck.....
