Dilema time...due to the fact that my X is under warranty and I want to swap out the intake...

which of the KKM or the MAC would be easier to change out if I need to take it to the dealer?

From the pictures it would seem that the MAC is all one unit and would be easier than the KKM.

Any ideas????

BUMP

Just install a K&N FIPK and you will not have to worry about taking it out when it is time for service. That could get old real fast.

You can remove and replace a KKM in just a few minutes; get one, you won't be disapointed.

Good luck.....

Anyone have the MAC

Their intake has a different intake tube than the KKM. Both are open element types.

I could not find the FIPK for the 02 Sport, maybe I was looking in the wrong place.

Thanks - JR

How may poeple actually put their stock units on before taking to the dealer? I never have, and they have never said anything to me. I have a KKM, and the dealer has treated me good. If I have actual engine problems, I might consider putting the stock unit on.

MAC is good, I have one and love it. It helped with performance and has a nice tone. I don't know about the new X's, but with the second gen. 5.0's, some of the intake pipes didn't have holes for the breather tube. Now mine just sits there, emitting who knows what, plus they never sent me a CARB sticker. But I guess you won't have to worry about that. The other two intakes you mentioned are good choices too.

Just went to the K&N site and they have a FIPK for a FORD EXPLORER V6-4.0L, SOHC, 2001-2002 part number 57-2529-1 that was released 16-Apr-02. It comes with a CARB sticker and all the lines that you remove from your origional equipment air filter will have a place to be plugged back in on the FIPK. I have taken my X in for dealer work with a K&N on it with no problems.

Thanks for the info.

I must say that this is as good a site as I have found for Explorers. I used to have a 1997 F250 HD Powerstroke diesel and that site ( ford-diesel.com ) also had lots of great guy/gals with great info.

I have a KKM and it didn't do anything to my warranty.

it also didn't do anything for my HP.. but its probablly just me, I think I'm a crappy driver or something lol
