I'm trying to decide if it's better to replace the stock air filter with either a KKM or a K&N panel.

does the K&N improve things much?, has anyone in the UK tried the KKM??

Graham.

Hi Graham,
I've fitted a K&N panel filter and I don't think theres much difference over the stock one. My only concern when it was new that I had to keep cleaning the MAF sensor.
I wondered whether oil from the filter, although it isn't soaking wet, was getting drawn on the the sensor.

im using a stainless steel cone, not ideal for offraoding as it will hoover up the water and dust but really good on the road, fords panels have no oil as i heard it can damge the maf sensor, at the bottom of the airbox there is a funnel pointing to the headlight, that diamiter is whats it breathing through, maybe just removing that funnel may make a little difference, 0.1hp possibly.

hmm...... searching through the rest of the forum gives very mixed opinions... :-(

looks like I'll just have to jump in and see what happens

I've fitted a blitz cone on mine that does seem to make a difference but before that I tried a k&n panel filter and wasn't very impressed plus I was always cleaning the maf

any panel filter will still be the same... panel and won't give you much improvement.

I'd go a notch higher and replace the panel with cone filter... just remember to keep it clean and moist (oil).

Lifes great advice- keep it clean and moist! Applicable to most things.....smile!

that explains the smoke ive been getting.....
