I've posted a few messages already about my new KKM tru rev intake kit, and i've done everything that needs to be done (I think!) but it doesnt seem to be yielding any better power? Maybe it is still adapting, it kind of feels like there is a hesitation when I floor it off the line and when going like around 40 mph or so. Anyone else have this problem or know what is going on? I can hear the difference when I floor it, but everyone has said u can definetly feel the better power and I dont think I can. PLease help!

Do you see any difference in fuel mileage?

Well right now isnt really the best time to tell because I have been using a heavy foot on the gas most of the time to test it out. I'll let you know when I find out.

its also gonna tough to tell the differences because of the ridiculously intense heat of the summer (not to mention i just noticed youre from AZ, heh.)

Did you reset the computer after the installation?

You are not going to feel any difference until late October. I don't even notice my K&N FIPK until the temperature gets below 90 here in Mesa.

Remember, this is just an open air fliter. It's not going to give you a noticable difference. You might feel a better response off the line, but if it hesitates at 40 it's not the filter. A few on newer vehicles may notice short term differences. I have the KKM and +4's. I only increased mpg after a major repair to the timing assembly. After that I gained 30 miles per tank. Ihas a neg and a pos effect. It allows more air to flow, but steals it from the hot engine compartment. You won't even notice anything with a cold air intake alone. When companies say they get up to 15 hp increase, they are talking about high performance modified engines.

aldive, yes i reset the comp. Thanks everyone for your replies, sounds like i'll have to wait till it cools down a bit before noticing. that does make sense. Thanks guys

before you give up on it this summer try one more thing!!!!

i have the exact same synthoms!! one thing i did was made my own ram air, which helped a little, but only after 60mph

but my problem was on acceleration anything above 3000rpm's it help like a huge flat spot and like i wasnt really accelerating, this is what i did, i cleaned the maf filaments!! it made the biggest difference ive ever seen ever on my truck!!!!i was so surprized, Do a search and look for directions on how to do this, and be very careful as the two little filaments are very fragile, But basically i took O2 safe carb cleaner and sprayed the two wires, the two wires were completely black from carbon deposits and that stuff dissolved it immediately!! Now it looks brand new. It only took 5 minutes to do it, but took 2 days to find the right torque driver to fit the odd screws in there, obviously ford doesnt want you to mess with it. But i caution, read up on this more before you do it, its a kinda delicate procedure and those darn mafs are really expensive so dont break it.

now my kkm feels awesome, of course i hooked up a ram air sysytem, have a easier flowing exaust and a chip not to mention cold alaskan air!!

Which are the MAF filaments? Sorry I'm not too keen on some of the engine terms. Please let me know, I'm sure mine need cleaning!

heres what i read before i did it, and it fixed the problem i had and i had the same synthoms you described.

this was atucally on the explorer tips part of this site...

If you have had bogging or missing or idle spots, about every 25K miles plan on this quick cleaning job:
When your engine is cool, remove the wiring clip from the side of the black plastic sensor part of the MAF aluminum body. To remove the MAF interior sensor wire, you will need a Security Star (Size T15 or T20) screwdriver or screwdriver bit for a power screwdriver. Remove the two security star-head screws and carefully remove the sensor. You will see the two sensor filaments…they look almost like the filaments on a light bulb. Carefully spray the filaments with an O2 safe carburetor cleaner, such as Gumout. Let it dry thoroughly. I help mine along with a careful blast or two of canned dry air. While it is drying carefully wipe the aluminum mount surface of the MAF body if there is any dust there, but be careful not to get dust in the mount hole. When the sensor is dry, replace the sensor back in the MAF body and secure with the security star-head screws. These don't need to be torqued down, just simply hand tight. Replace the wiring clip. Then start up your engine. You should have solved any bogging or missing problems. My flat idle spot is ancient history.

Just a word of caution, if you plan to do any offroading, do not spend time on a ram/cold air induction system.

If not, hope it works out....good luck!!

hmm i think i will give that a try the maf cleaning. thanks for the knowledge

i do some offroading but i still think it was worth spending time makign the ram air work as i planned for that as well. I can totally dissasenble my ram air in under 5 minutes so when i go offroading i just take it out. Also it was worth it cause most of the miles are on the highway over 55 so it was very well worth it and i have liked the results. Plus im taking a 3000 drive to move to colorado so i just thought it could help a little. Not realy too much on gas but i can feel a little difference when im passing people say when accelerating from 50 and i feel it all the way up to top speed. not that i would go top speed or anything

ALright now i'm starting to get aggravated! I finally found someone with the type of screwdriver needed to take off the MAS cover, only to then realize that the second screw was like covered with a soft cement stuff and filled in, so there is no way to unscrew it! Did ford do this on purpose or what? What do u guys think i should do? I really want to get this cleaned to see what happens!

You should be able to cut the filling out with an exacto knife. You also could have used a standard torx driver if you would have used needle nose pliers to break off the center pin. I know, it's a little late to be telling you that now :)

Thanks robert, i'll try that later today :)

wait do they all have filling in them?
i have a few minor problems with hesitation and what not in my explorer. i want to clean it just for then fun of it to see if it makes any difference

keep me updated guys!! i was and am still exicited about how much it really helped out my truck. And i cant wait to see how it does for you guys too, just be very careful and again make sure the cleaner say 02 safe carb cleaner.

WHY are you taking apart the MAS???!!!! You don't need to do this to clean it! Take off the filter and spray it a few times with a cleaner while it is STILL attached to the intake. There is a reason why they use a security star screw there.
