what exactly is the difference between a KKM filter and one you can buy from my local specialty auto store. is the somethin real special about the KKM or is there something that makes another brand so different than the KKM. i want to get one and build a custom air intake for it.

The KKM and K&N are both very high quality, cleanable filters. They allow a s%*tload of air through while still filtering out the bad stuff. The only real difference between KKM and K&N is for us Californian's. The K&N is smog certified in CA and the KKM is not. If you don't have similar restrictions in South Carolina (I think that's where you are I can't look while replying) then save the bucks and get the KKM.

I went to KKM's site http://www.kustomz.com/
and I can buy a K&M drop in filter for about 50bux..these induction kits cost more and they suck hot air from under the hood..I haven't inspected the airbox on my explorer but doesn't it suck cold air from the wheel well?

Just seems like the K&N is the better idea.

well if you look under the "where do i get a cold air induction", just do 15 most recent threads. youll see what i awant to do with it. what does it mean at the end of the article about ram airs, ·At some point, you're going to be feeding more air than the MAF can handle. After this, it's all just extra work.

Too much air?

Tarheels, I don't think you can have too much air. Think of ramair cars and motorcycles. At higher speeds, the excess air pressurizes the airbox and works the same way a supercharger or turbo would, just passively.

he was referring to the end of the article that I posted above..It says exactly that...

At some point, you're going to be feeding more air than the MAF can handle. After this, it's all just extra work.
