"KLUNK!" when stopping..or starting to move!!!

There is a teflon (I think, or was it kevlar) patch that wears out on torsion bars. probably that....

I had the same thing back when I had a Blazer. For me, it was a Torsion bar end (so the dealer said). It fixed the problem.

Chris,

Have you done yours yet? Lets do then this weekend?

The slip yoke will cause a "clunk" sound or feel when coming to a stop. A bad kevlar patch on the torsion bar adjuster will cause a "clanking" noise when going over anything but the smoothest of surfaces.

ron, i havent done anything yet... i dont know how free i will be this weekend though because im getting a lot of 100K maintenence done this weekend sometime, but i think we could work out a time. when are you free?

What kind of grease do you use for the slip yoke and where can you get it?

Just regular old white lithium grease will do fine.

What type of bolts are those that hold the driveshaft to the differential flange? Are there any special tools needed for them? Will a 12 point socket work on those?
Sorry for all the questions, I've just never seen those style before

Thanks
Dale

Yes, a regular 12-point socket will do.

I wasn't able to do to lubricate the slip yoke the other night. Too many other things got in the way. I will be doing it over the weekend though. The clunking is driving me nuts. Time to bust out the air compressed grease gun and might as well do the entire chassis while I'm doing it.

Approx how much time should this take from beginning to end doing it for the first time?

Thanks
Randy

1 1/2 hours which includes a trip up to Checker Auto Parts for a pair of hose clamps to replace the one-time-use-only clamps that Ford put on.

Second time around figure on 30 min. to 45 min.

Well,

I have the four bolts out of the rear of the driveshaft but I cant free the DS from the diff plate....... any suggestions?

Thanks
Randy
