Ok, so I haven't posted anything in a long time and this is probably not the best way of coming back, but here goes...I NEED knowledge...I need books and anything that any of you gearheads have found useful in your experience with engines, modifications and to put it bluntly, making cars go a lot faster. I would like to learn more about supercharging and turbocharging; I would like to learn about engines and engine types; I would especially like to learn about the proper ways to drive a manual transmission in a racing situation(what to do, what not to do to get the most acceleration for your effort); I need books, I need some suggestions on books. I have about $200 that I have set aside to purchase numerous books so that when I get my new Mustang GT next year, I can start in on modifications (swapping in a 351 C.I.D.) with a lot more than just the average "car-guy's" knowledge. I need and want the techincal know-how to do these types of things and as I said before, I would also be EXTREMELY interested in learning how to properly drive a manual transmission in a drag racing 1/4 mile situation. I welcome any and all suggestions as to books, etc that will help a acceleration craving motorhead attain his knowledge. Let the suggestions begin...

How about trying to get a job in a "hot rod" shop or something along those lines? I was thinking about doing that myself. I bet you could learn a lot doing that.

Look on amazon.com or something for books on turbo'ing, engines, electrical, EFI, carburetion, etc. etc. Also haynes and chiltons make specialty books on various topics. But I think to really get knowledge you just have to learn hands on from someone that really knows their s__. Learn by doing. Get an engine and rebuild it, experiment with what works and what doesn't. A 351 drop in a Mustang sounds like a neat project.

www.vanirtech.com has a link that tells about a book which is supposed to be really good on engine tech. It's really about how to mod the old Ford 2.9L V6 carb engine, but the Vanir people think it's an excellent book on tricking any engine.

UTI has a special Hoy Rod University course... it is mucho $ but you will be smart as heck
