Ok anyone have a larger than the micro printed Chilton's version of the Fuse Block and Wiring Diagram for a 91 Ranger 4.0L?

Hell I can't even read the silly things with my bifocals! We had a near melt down...fuse block hopefully is ok, but 4 wires, including the turn signals are totally toasted.

Also, is there some trick to actually removing the fuse block? Hubby tried unscrewing a couple of screws and it still didn't come lose...

So, as you can guess my poor truck is out of commission at the moment. *Sighs*

Brooklyn,

We hadn't worked on any wiring at all...

The first thing that happened was my turn signals stopped working. Hubby replaced the blown 15amp fuse with a 15 amp and it worked long enough for me to start the truck, make two left turns then stopped again. Then since he didn't have another 15 amp, he put a 10 amp in there instead, figuring it would either work, or blow...

Well it didn't blow, it tried to burn...

Any ideas?

I had a short in the wires that were added for a trailer. The wires got pinched behind the tail lights..

Once that happened I ended up with two issues.. First the Brake lights stayed on all the time.. When the fuse wasn't blowing..

Turned out the wires that go to the brake pedal melted together (so now it acted like the brake pedal was pushed all the time)..

That alone I found out will make wires hot (I drove home from work like that.. 40 minutes of driving)..

I then started to try to find the harness connectors and disconnect the wires. I found the plugs in the rear of the vehicle that connected the tail lights. Once I disconnected those the short went away. I then knew my problem was from there back..

You may have to use the same method.. Find the wires that go to the lights and disconnect them at the plugs (for the rear they are under the truck.. and if I remember correctly on the drivers side past the tire.. its been a while since I did this)..

If the short goes away you know the problem is over there. If not you can then do the same to eliminated the front lights.

My guess is the problem is far front or rear because thats where the exposed wires are.. The rest of the wires are pretty well protected.

Mark thanks so much for the suggestions...

Hubby and neighbor, hopefully will be dragging her home tomorrow...so he can work on her Saturday. Great way to spend a Labor Day weekend....NOT!

We have a wiring diagram and one for the fuse block...

He said that four (4) wires are totally toasted. My guess would be if he figures out WHICH wires they are, he can trace to where the short is by them...or am I guessing wrong?

He will have his work cut out as my Ranger is a standard cab (read NO room to work under the dash) Oh, are there any tricks to getting that blasted fuse block out of the dash? It wouldn't come lose last night when he tried...but it was getting late and he gave up for lack of light and energy.

Many Thanks!
