Hi guys, I experienced this today in the morning with my explorer. Winter seasons approaching here in Alberta, and we've had our first snowfall of the year, today early in the morning I went to start my car and everything went normal until I started hitting the road, I felt a very lazy gear shifting when Id reach the 50kmh mark; but it would go away after that. A few minutes later it got worse cause it was doing the same thing over and over again. I know I have some bushings to change on my rear knuckles but I don't really thing that's got to do with the problem. Any ideas ?

If it is really cold I've noticed that the transmission seems to hold onto a gear a little longer when first starting off the first drive of the day but then it is 'business as normal'.
Can't see your bushing issue having anything to do with the problem. Winter seems a way off yet here. Temps in the low 20's C forecast for the next few days. Had 4 days of 30+ last week.;)

transmission fluid will starts warm up once you start driving it. So go pretty easy on it when its cold temp. If it keep does that after 10~20 mins of driving, i will try change tranny fluid see if it helps.

Now that Chef-j has brought that up, have you actually checked the transmission fluid level?

The holding in gear is part of the engine programming. If it is below a set temp it raises the shift points. It's a quicker way of getting the engine up to running temp and decrease emissions (cold engines have to burn more fuel).

My 2002 Mazda Millenia is probably the most pronounced car I've had that does this. You think that car is never gonna shift sometimes.
