2010 Mountaineer 4.0
2010 mountaineer 4.0. went out this morning engine would crank (turning over just fine) but no start. Turned key off and tried again same would turn over no start. Waited a bit tried again and it started right up. Did some errands and it ran fine no issues.

Did shut it down at my stops and it would start right up. No noise no missing ran great. It was cold this morning -5 but have started this vehicle at -40.

I am leading towards fuel filter / fuel pump. Vehicle has 87,000 miles. Oil changes every 3,000 miles trans change every 20,000 miles. So what do you think?

Do you hear the fuel pump activate when you turn the key to the on position ? I'm in the middle of changing my fuel pump now. Same symptom. No whirrring from the pump and it just cranked over and no start. Try a few times and the pump activates and starts right up. Not apples to apples, mine is a 2000 2 door Sport model. Other things I have checked, the fuel pump safety switch, The fuel pump relay, and checked to see if there was voltage supplied to the pump every time the ignition is switched on.

To be honest I was not paying attention to the fuel pump. But I may have figured it out. Had a 1960's brain f***.Beings it was 5 below I pumped the accelerator and held the pedal down and I believe that caused the no start (I think there setup to do that.

Back in the 60s you would press the pedal down to set the choke. Never did that before had the mountaineer for 7 years with minus 40 temp. Cannot figure WHY I did it yesterday. But will keep an eye out if it does it again.🙄 Thank you for your input.

LOL the 60"s I'm 71 years old.. remember some of the 60's.. Nobody that lived through the 60's remembers the entire decade. Choke thermostat springs and manual choke cables as well. Good luck, Hope that was the problem.
