2003 Ford Explorer XLT
Hey Everyone,

I am new to the site and also new to working on my own vehicles. I just replaced the thermostat housing on my 2003 Explorer XLT, now my ect sensor is leaking out coolant. It's not threaded so how do i properly seal it? It does not seem to fit very snug before it gets clipped in. would a new sensor fix this issue or is there a quick fix like plumbers tape?

Very common when replacing the 4.0L SOHC lower thermostat housing and reusing the ECT sensor. The o-ring gets flattened over time and does not seal. New sensor would be a guaranteed fix but many have replaced the o-ring with success. Do NOT use teflon tape or sealant, tried both with three failures. And yes, be careful with the sensor retaining clip, if it flies off chances are you will never find it. Tie a string or mono fishing line to it or use needle nose vice grips. GL
