On my 2006 4.6 limited, when the heater core leaks is there a drain to the outside?
I smell a little coolant when first started but goes away in a couple minutes. No coolant on the floor. None leaking on the ground. Very slow pressure loss on pressure test, radiator was 1/4 gallon low.

There is an overflow tube that drains from the heater core housing to the ground. It dumps out somewhere just under the passenger side dash. A good way to know if the heater core is leaking coolant is to turn the heat all the way down with the fan off. Then let the engine come up to full temperature and crank up the heat and turn on the fan. If the windshield gets a film on the inside, and/or you can smell coolant, then you have a bad heater core. This works better if the temperature is colder.
