Leaking trans fluid from a very weird place... help please

mechanics are something sometimes. "Yeah, she needed a carburator rebuild, and a new transmission. she runs real good now" "WHAT! I only wanted an oil change!" or "Hey bob! whats that part right there?" "Ahh looks like about 500 bucks"

Balljoints ?

Mikes95XLT, You said you had your balljoints replaced and it eliminated clunking? Maybe that is the problem with mine. Were you getting it when braking? Sorry to change the subject.
Thanks.

Exp-Wi: No not when braking, but like going over bumps, or turning and going over bumps, etc. Even like train tracks or curbs, I'd have a bad clunking.

UPDATE #2

Truck is at the Ford dealer....

They called me today and said that it could be the seal, pump, or a torque converter issue. They also noticed that I have a torn CV boot, and so I am replacing that too, plus new rotors and pads, etc.

Estimated out the door, worse case scenario (i.e. torque converter problem) is $2,200.00....... OUCH!

:(

FINAL UPDATE

Ok so they found out what it was. The bolts that hold the bell housing to the motor have little O seals on them. They were bad and leaking. So they're replacing all the bolts, and I told them to replace the front seal while they were in there too just in case.

Other repairs include the front driver side CV boot, rear rotors and pads, front pads, emergency brake shoes (no pad left) and belt tensioner.

$2,280.00 + tax is the final bill. Damn. :(

Wow you could have had the trans rebuilt entirely for that price. I can't beleive they charged that much.

Did they tell you that? Maybe they meant the bell housing to the transmission pump? No o-rings on the bell housing to motor. Just FYI for anyone who reads this later.

Glad you got it fixed.

Maybe that was it... but it had to do with bolts of some kind. I dunno, the dude called me at 7:30 this morning. :D
