Has anyone here had a problem with the dye coming off their leather wrapped steering wheel? I guess I have extra acidic palm sweat or something, because my 1.5YO X's steering wheel wrap is starting to loose is dye (it's coming off in little flecks -- kinda loks like it's dusty, but it's not). I've even been extra nice to it and have been using Lexol on the shortest recomended schedule. *sigh*

Anyway, is there anyway to get it re-dyed, or am I stuck with a shabby looking steering wheel (sans total replacement)?

Thanks,
Miles Teg

In my 95 gray and 96 tan both looked like crap. I've just turned to steering wheel covers. There is a company called Wheelskins that make a decent leather cover but I've heard the color match is just slightly off. Makes me wonder why they didn't just stick to the all black wheel. The 92 I had and my dads 99 were black and always looked un-worn.

Thanks!,

Those wheel skins look like the ticket!

Total replacement is actually pretty easy. Easier than threading a new wrap on, in my experience. You can usually find explorer steering wheels on ebay for $30 or $40, and it takes about 10 minutes to swap the old one out.

American stitches is a company that completely re-wraps your streering wheel, not cheap but top notch quality job and done in a minimal amount of time, I have had several Mustang SVO streering wheels covered by them and even turn on Latemodel Restoration/50 Resto, to use them to have all thier wheels done.
They also do photoGenesis process.

Here is another interesting site, if you have blown air bags:
