I picked up an 04 last year. The previous owner had 5 speakers replaced as well as the stereo.
The front left speaker often cuts out. Doesn't get raspy at all, just cuts out.
However, if I turn the volume up, the speaker plays sound and usually will for a bit, then stops again.

The connection is probably loose at the speaker. Quite common for it to find it's connection when it's blasting.

Take the door panel off and make sure it's making contact.

I'll check that out. Will be awesome if it's that simple.

If it isn't, it's not too hard to fix. If the speaker is bad, you can put in a new speaker for like $20. If the wiring is bad somewhere between the door and headunit, you can run 2 new wires for + and - relatively easy from the headunit. Since it's so close to the headunit, it shouldn't be too bad.

Yeah very easy to replace speakers on your body style and really any to my awareness.

Super easy.

Hopefully it's just a connection but I always replace my speakers with Infinity Kappa anyway

The stock speakers are bad. But the 'premium' stock speakers are actually better than some car's stock speakers.
I find the headunits in Ford's really limit the speaker quality.

This isn't as bad in my 3rd and 4th gens. My 4th gen is pretty decent. But my 2nd gen it was HORRIBLE.

The second gen headunit is garbage. If I play a 40 hz test tone through it, as I increase volume, the hz changes, and it's noticeable to the ear pretty clearly. No need for sound tools..

Finally got around to taking a look.
Wasn't any obviously loose connections, though didn't seem like the connectors were fully on the speaker +/- prongs.
Disconnected the adapter to car harness, put some dielectric grease on it as it looked oxidized, then put it back together.
It immediately sounded better.
Then I started to play with the fade and balancer. Only to find no sound out of the front right speaker.
Taking the door apart I found both to be missing the screws for the door pull. Passenger speaker only had two mounting screws (screw #3 fell to the ground when I pulled the door panel.) Removed the speaker to find the ground not even connected to the speaker. Plugged it in and it cuts in and out. Appears to be the adapter.
Putting the screws back in, found they'd stripped the threads in the door.
It was all installed at Bestbuy. Won't let them touch a car of mine.

Previous owner had Infinity Reference 6832 installed at least in the front doors.

Bestbuy Quality.
