So after seeing a few nice looking x's on here that have been lowered I contemplate wether I want to lift or lower my x. I am from a rural area so I have been influenced over time to want to lift my x. Now I am not sure. My x is stock except for the stereo system and soon to be K&N 77series intake. It is 2wd. Which is my main reason for thinking maybe I should lower it instead of lift. I do love the aggressive look a lift and bigger tires gives a suv or truck.

What do you think? Cost wise as well which is cheaper? me = college student = little money for mods

I guess that would depend on personal preference/mood/ride tolerance. Anything you do will alter how your currently used to it handling.I myself am leaning toward lowering mine, but the streets of NYC are very unforgiving. So until I can make all the necessary upgrades that will keep me from shaking apart(swaybars, bushings, shocks, etc) i'm gonna hold off for a while.

Well, the first thing you will find is that your options to lift are VERY limited or non-existant.

I already have a Jeep Wrangler lifted on 35's with many thousands of dollars of off-road prowess poured into it. So, my Jeep is by far the trail worthy rig in our family.

I came to a realization that our uses for an explorer were as a comfortable daily driver with the ability to take a decent amount of stuff on road trips and something that would rally up to the ski resorts on snow covered roads. It does all these things well, so that's what we let it specialize in.

I'd say that especially since yours is a 2wd, that you should lean towards the 'street' look. Putting big tires and a lift on a 2wd is very poser in my opinion.

But at the end of the day, it's your rig and you should build it up the way that YOU want it and apprecite it. When I look in my garage and see the 20's and all on my Explorer, I LOVE the look. I know it's not for everyone, but I think it's beautiful and that's what matters.

if it were my choice i would say lift it i am not a fan of lowered truck i think they are ment to be lifted or at leats at stock height. As for how to lift a second gen...good luck( you can do a BL or have an off-road shop build you a coilover kit).

i would drop your truck

trayson, notice he has a sport. He has options to lift his explorer...

I have seen some pretty nice looking lifted sports, however considering the 2wd, I would probably opt to drop instead!

LIFT IT! although you may be limited to a body lift go for it!

i don't know where people got the idea that 2wd were stupid to lift. The fact is that many pre-runner who can frankley beat a mud hole in your ass in the desert are ..... guess what 2WD! Lift it...romp it...have a good time in it!

That's just my opinon though LOL
cp

PS....i just saw your in Ohio...i still say lift it, lock it, and go places where stock/open 4x4 cant!

duh i dint see you were a sport....it is much easier to lift....BTW if you want to go wheeling send me a pm(im 2.5 hours from ya).

I noticed that in addition to the 20's, you also used Ground Force springs. Any problems with alignment? Did you change shocks/struts at the same time? Thanks for your time.

i think im gonna stick with the lift here soon ..... however the woman, "nag nag nag, you should leave it alone" i found procomp has one for my sport so as soon as taxes come ill be liftin it. i think.... who knows then ill have to get tires so the lift doesnt seem out of place. can i lift it over time.... buy the kit but only lift the back with the spings and stuff then when i get more time lift the front with the spindles? yea itll look off till i get the frnt lifted but will it cause any problems?
