I just got back from visting 2 different custom shops in my area and wanted to find some info for giving my 99' X a little lift to get rid of that "stock" look. I asked the people about a torsion twist on the front and shackles on the back to give me that about 1.5" - 2" of lift. Both guys said no dice- it was a bad idea. They said it could result in big problems later.

I have used the search option many of times and everyone seems to like TT's. If i decided to just do it, what things would i have to tell the people to do?

I dont have the capabilites to do this stuff at my house, so i have no choice but to work through custom shops (which kinda sucks). I'm sadly a beginner when it comes to do-it-yourself mods, but am eager to learn. Any help is really appreciated.

Chris

well if you have a semi decent rachet set you can easily do the torsion twist. no special tools are required. the shackles are a little more difficult but not too hard.
The torsion twist will mean that you loose some droop and the suspension could be a little stiffer. Also CV joints may wearout slightly prematurely. No serious problems have been reported by users of this board. The only person to break a torsion bar was Gerald and he had caused damage to the bar not related to the torsion twist.

the person that i know who has had it the longest is Rick G (ExplorGM) im not sure how long. but Gerald has abused the crap outta his front end and has about 80K on it and hte only thing that happened to him was what ok89 mentioned. the shackles: i only used my floor jack and the stock jack to make the leafs go down. but theres gotta be someone near you that can help ya out!

thanks for the help guys. I'll try to pick up some warrior shackles this week, and if i can, put them in myself. I'm only worried about the torsion twist. I dont want to twist too far. Hopefully i'll manage. Thanks again

Most people can twist 2" out of their bars without any problems. Good luck!

If you have a 4x4, just drive around the block afterwards and listen. You can hear your cv's binding or clicking. If so, then back them off alittle. Technically, you don't even have to drive it around the block, just turn the wheels while it is lifted.
