I been dealing with this problem for over 6 months now....at the least opportune time my door ajar light will come on and if if take off too fast my rear glass will open.... the only way to check it is to turn on the rear wiper and if it does not work the rear window is unlatched..... there is no special situation that causes this, I thought it was either driving like an ass, bass blasting or very bumpy roads but in the last week I had it happen 3 times on smooth express way trips with speed control set and just driving ...... about to take the back apart and unplug the actuator ..... anyone else have this problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd suspect the latch need adjusting to lock properly. Why it isn't now I have no idea but if its unlatching i suspect its not fully engaging and road vibrations are popping it free. A good hot day job I am sure. Getting at the adjustment point may require a tail gate image of the parts to see.

its kept pretty clean and only happens while driving and at the worst possible time

It's a long shot but you might check your remote if you have one.
It could be sticking inside making contact with the glass button.

I thought about that and drove a week without my fob and it still did it

MCF13,

I just upgraded my daughter from a 1994 Explorer to the 2006 Explorer. She said whenever she hits a bump or goes around a turn sharply, the rear window unlatches (but does not open). What did you find out about your rear window issue?

Thank you,

Johnny O

I first cut the ground wire after tracking it down in the loom under the plastic trim at the back of the headliner and installed a toggle switch tto see if cutting power would stop it from opening and drove for a week and it didnt open but cops were pulling me over for no plate lights... no idea why ford would share this ground with the window actuator and plate lights but should of just cut the power wire so after cops got annoying I flipped the switch back on and window started popping open again so I sprayed alot of WD-40 into the latch and magically it has not popped back open in like 6 months... i cant explain anything about this since with no power it didnt do it even once and totally washed out with oil its also has not done it

Motor City,

Thanks for the reply.

Sounds like your manipulation of the wiring loom may have had some effect. I will have my daughter monitor this, and if it continues, I will try some kind of tester/indicator on the control wire to see if that is being activated.

after I flipped the switch back on it started popping open again it wasnt until I flooded it with wd-40 did it stop

Motor City,

Thank you for correcting me. I read too fast. I have a can of WD-40. Maybe I will give it a rinsing with that as well.

Best,

Johnny O
