I have a question, I have searched through several threads but still haven't found the answer I'm looking for. I have a 2001 Explorer Sport but I can not figure out how to open the backglass on the liftgate/hatch. The liftgate opens no problems at all, and the lock works perfect, but the backglass won't open. I read a couple threads 1 about a button above the license plate area if you push it will open. I searched everywhere all over the liftgate and there is no button hidden anywhere to pop open the backglass. I read a thread also about the keyless entry if you press the door code, and then press 5/6 it will open, tried that didn't work either.

I am clueless how to get it open. I don't have a factory remote, when I got it, they didn't have one, but it does have keyless entry which works great. Any ideas how to open the back glass?

the button is the lock mechanism, where you turn the key. (at least it is on my 2000) mine was in bad shape when I got it and was hard to open, key wouldn't turn, I sprayed it with some lube, and that helped. as far as I know there is no way to open it from the inside

the electric actuator may also be bound up, or need to be replaced, or the rod from the actuator may be disconnected from the latch itself. if neither open the glass, from inside the truck, pop the large plastic cover off from the middle of the interior door panel and use a screwdriver or other tool to unhook the latch that holds the back glass closed. that's how to open the rear window at the junkyard when there is no battery

Thanks I will try both options, hopefully nothing is messed up. Thanks that worked.
