Liftgate strut mount

I have one partially trashed liftgate mount. I contacted the local dealer and eventually received this... ""Those parts for this Recall have become obsolete we are unable to get the parts to complete this recall. You might be able to call Ford customer service at 800-521-4140 and speak with them in regards to getting this taken care of."" ---No (local) offer to spot weld, "we'll figure something out" or even "we'll sell you a new Explorer".

Very sorry to hear this. I still keep looking on ebay for the kit, no luck yet.

Dear Louie the Explorer, Thank-you for the kind, positive attitude; something the world needs more of today!

I used a strut mount I had left over from my motorhome. Riveted it on. Been like that for about six months, no problem so far with lots of use. I'll weld it next time I do a project.

"How Long Are Car Recalls Valid?

While recalls don’t technically expire, manufacturers are only obligated to provide a free remedy to vehicles not more than 15 years old.

As per the NHTSA, “In order to be eligible for a free remedy, the vehicle cannot be more than 15 years old on the date the defect or noncompliance is determined.” Under this law, the age of the vehicle is counted from the date of the original sale of the vehicle when brand new.

If you found a recall on a vehicle older than 15 years, please take the responsibility to repair your car as soon as possible. This will keep you safe and eliminate any unnecessary safety risks."

You are 12 years too late for a recall. I just don't see how you would expect Ford to sell you a new vehicle, or even be able to figure something out. They are a dealership, they have no skin in the game, they did all they could by looking up the parts to see if they were available.

I straightened the sheet metal out, then spot welded the strut mount back in place. Its been like that since before the recall because when it came out I had already dealt with the issue.
