Lifting the Fridge & I want to get some input from YOU

I have nipped and pecked for info about lifting my Ex more but I figure if I start a new thread the I will get many pros and cons. I intend on purchsing the 4" springs and 4" drop brackets from Andre for 250. the rear I plan on a spring over. Can you guys tell me what else I should plan on spending money on.
Front
springs &
drop brackets---$250
Brake lines?
Extended radius arms?(Are they necessary)
drop pitman arm?(necessary)
alaignment
shocks(What brand is reccomended)

Rear
Spring over-FREE
new axle mounts-
new brake lines-
new shocks
will I need to lengthen my driveshaft?

Ouch this is not going to be as cheap as the original $250 figure but will it be a bunch cheaper than going new?

In case anyone has an entire rear axle off of a 95 or newer with discs and limited slip I would be interested. 3.73 would be efficient but if I would buy a 4.11 then I would be adding one more upgrade and also one more project up front but in the long run it would save me some time.
Thanks,
the 4x4 moron

Thanks Eric,
If I say mine is a 95 they give me a list of about 5, If I say its a 97 or 98 it asks something else after about auto and susp. I didn't quite understand but from what I've heard I can fit any axle from an Ex and there all 8.8 correct

All Explorer rear axels are 8.8 Even the Rangers with the 4.0 use the 8.8 but I think the springs mount differently on them. Actually, I think the springs mount on top???

the rangers come with 28 spline axles u don't want these find a explorer rear axle and i think the reason they ask about susp for the 98 is air control and all wheel drive

DANNY-

I SEE YOU CAME TO LOVE MY FRIDGE NAME HUH!! hee hee i knew it would grown on ya.

Whatever Punk I just wanted a thread that would get some looks. When i finish this monster it will make your Pretty dash into woodchips. just kidding Austin I don't want you to chase me I know you run fast

I wish the fat man running story would get posted for everyone to see! it could be like the hootus thing! well, maybe not as funny but damn close! I am damn proud of my self and that

anyone took a shot of Austin runnig?????

lol

Dan, any 95-97 rear end should work. I was looking at it myself. 98 and newer have air suspension and leveling systems and you don't really want to get into that. 95 should be the closest to yours. and go 4:10 if you think of running 33's..........

now wait, Pete still runs 35's on his 3:27 isn't he???

Later,

I think pete has 3.73 or at least I assumed. What a lucky guy. when we were lost in Purdue he was spinning those 35's like it was nothing and he has an auto. Then he tells me he hasn't done a thing to his engine and works it as if it were stock with some big boggers. I have no luck, but he has good ideas to go with the 5.0 and change to a manual. He will spend his fair share of garage time in the future

Dannyboy,

as you requested:

FRONT
-SuperLift 4" lift coil springs: $99 -- look for a used pair from someone who's upgraded to 5.5"
-SuperLift extended brake lines (front & rear): $80 -- not DOT approved but $40 cheaper than SkyJacker
-SuperLift SuperRunner Kit (extended RAs): $540 -- no, not necessary but a major benefit
-Drop pitman arm: $55 -- absolutely necessary
-Allignment: $60-200 -- price increases when you need new camber sleeves or caster adjustment tweaks
-Rancho 9000 shocks: $65/ea. -OR- new Bilstein 5100(?) series shocks for lifted trucks: price unknown -- you will need new (longer) shocks

REAR
-Morosso axle perches: $12
-Extended brake lines: see above
-Shocks: Re-use stock length shocks
-U-bolt plates: flip and invert the factory plates
-Driveshaft: After the lift remove the drive shaft; remove the slip joint boot. Measure the spline length. Re-install the drive shaft and jack up the rear end letting the suspension hang freely. Measure the exposed slip joint spline length. Compare your measurements to determine how much of the splines are in the axle tube at full droop.
-Pinion angles: Using an angle finder measure the t-case and differential flange angles. The diff flange should be ~2 degrees off (up) to compensate for axlewrap
-Lower shock mounts: Either purchase aftermarket or weld a stud to the axle (check angle first)

Other things I'd consder:
-M.O.R.E. anti axle-wrap spring perches: $45
-M.O.R.E. heavy duty u-bolt plates: $12/ea.
-New heavy duty U-bolts (4): $11.50/ea.
-Steering stabilizer: $35

Hope this helps...

you're getting two coil springs and front drop brackets (four) two for the diff and two for the RA brackets........ no extended RA's.........

well, let me know ASAP

Yes.....I got 3.73's and a bone stock engine....Hell, i havent changed my plugs since I bought the damn thing....In rain, it takes nothing to spin the tires....trust me :) I can do ok w/ the 3.73s but hopefully with the new t-case and manual trans....I'll make out a lil better :)
Pete

Due to Austin's enthusiasm, this now may be a official event to lift my rig. I want to do it sometime in June and anyone is welcome. Just bring your knowledge. I still need to find out about these raduis arms.
Austin said he will deliver the lift
Ryan1 said he may come from the cities
Jeff Treder from LaCrosse has done a spring over on his Explorer in the past.
I have very limited supply of tools but I think everyone can pool together and make this work. I have a buddy with a large shop and a welder. I also am not mechanically inclined but promise cold beer and will make my knuckles bloody if you tell me what to hit them against.
