OH YEAH YOU HAVE A BOAT!!!!!!! well, you know you will nead a real truck to pull that boat. not one with bad gears!

When are we talking about doing this? Do i need to take days off work?

You don't need now brake lines for the rear, I'm still using my stock brakelines and I have 13 inches of suspension lift. And there is no reason to get a new driveline for the rear, it will work just fine.. Superlift makes a bracket for a spring over, all you do is slip it over the top of the axle and it fits into the old axle mounts. That way you don't need to worry about the angle of your pinion.

As far as shocks look into the James Duff shocks, They are pretty cheap and will work just fine. Plus if you are ever looking for more lift in the rear, James Duff makes an add a leaf and shackles. Oh and they also make an extended radius arm.

Well good luck,

Oknut, how did your Explorer turn out? Do you have any current pics? Last I ever remember reading you had slowed down because you were buying a house.

Thanks Knut
My biggest concern with going up this high this quick is to make sure that it can still handle some HWY use and I dont want a tippy rig in town. I can just see it on the cover of the paper. I tip on the main road in rush hour(Oh well, my roommate and I already had a boat fall off a trailer during rushour...damn safety chains are their for a reason)
SO I plan on 15x8 rims
possibly double shocks
possibly RS9000 with a slight chance of in cab controls
possible extended Radius arms if I can get a price

Mikefox,

The explorer is all done and has seen the trails a few times, there are only a few little things to do, and that's the stereo and some traction bars.

There's a picture of it under tires and wheels, the thread is called pic.

DannyBoy,

I don't think you have anything to worry about. I drive my truck around town and it's a little bigger then yours. When I had the 6 inch lift and 33's it actually felt really good on the road, I didn't even have the swaybars on it. And I also think it would look a better if you go with some 15x10 rims, would make you less tippy as well.

Take care and all the best,
Knut

Thanks Knut,
I was trying to figure out if a 15x10 will stick out farther than I wanted, and I also was worried about weight. I cant spend the money on a gear upgrade, so I want to stay with 3.73. But I think you may be on to something if stability is what I am really looking for. Remember Knut, every Explorer is smaller than yours.

Dannyboy,

I don't think you need to worry about the weight of the rim. You were gonna go with some 33's anyway right ? You were also worried about the rims sticking out to far - I bet they make different offset rims.

What I think is, do what you want right away, instead of having to upgrade down the road, just because you wish you would have done it a little differently.

Don't let me talk you into something you don't wanna do, because believe me I would rather see you go even bigger.

Take care,
Oknut

the rims and tires I am thinking of buying are these
Dead Link Removed
so I dont have a choice with backspacing, is there a chance I should stay away from a certain backspace?

Nice looking rims..

Well it all depends on what your after. If you wanna be really wide go with some offset rims. If not then find some that have some backspacing.

Brian-

I am going to deliver the lift, you are welcome to ride with me. If your parents dont mind me being there

OK the lift is going in starting tomorrow.
I still do not have shocks. I am thinking of the Rancho 5000's unless someone will go to bat and tell me the Rancho RSX's are God's gift.
OKNUT,
did you extend your front brake lines? The guy helping me has lifted a 94 ranger and rerouted his brake lines.
AR Baja's are the rim of choice, are the Eagle 589's better for any reason?
Last question, none, single or double steering stabilizer, and has anyone run dual shocks?

Hey,

Well I had the superlift on my truck before I did the straight axle conversoin, so I just used the extended brakelines that came with the lift, but I do think that you could rerout it somehow. It get's trickie on one side though because there are dual brakelines, one comming in and the other going back over to the other side.

Personally I like the eagle 589's, but I have no clue if there actually is a difference between the two.

I run dual shocks in the front, it seems to help me out a lot. I run James Duff 30/70 shocks, they are 36 inches long with over 15 inches of travel. I built my own shock mount and they are very easy to build. I just made a little bracket of the frame where my coil bucket use to be.

Hope some of this will help you.

Take care,
Oknut
