Anyone know where to get a light bar that can attach to the top of a truck cap? My friend wants to add lights but not loose his cap on his truck. He'd prefer to not have to drill his cap. Off the shelf or DYI options are both welcome

I seem to remember seeing some universal light bars when I was looking into this but you'll have to drill into the cap either way, they don't mount with tape :). I've seen some roof racks that cam b mounted to almost anything and you might b able to modify on of those as well.

Well if you can get your hands on some, the tape they use to hold on bug deflectors might work. I have never actually seen its strength myself (mine is the screw-in kind) but the guy at Advanced told me that if you mess up, the bug deflector will break before the tape comes off. Maybe you can look into it by contacting a maker.

VentShade is the maker of mine and it said in the instructions, that they used the tape on 2002 and newer models (atleast for the explorer).

The tape is made by 3M, it is an VHB double sided tape pt# 4951. The only issue is that it does not like temps below 20 deg.

yeah, if you have raingutters, you could get a half-set by Yakima or Thule. I prefer Yakima because they have round bars.

I think that there's another part number that's used for a more all-weather solution. My chrome B-pillar covers are held on with 3M tape, and it was down to like -2F last winter and they held on fine (no promoter used either.. just wiped the surface down and stuck it on)

I dont think I would trust tape on a light bar that is subjected to the wind on top of an X. Lights on top will effect milage so they must catch the wind pretty good. Tape usually holds stuff that the wind easily passes over.
